Walking home in the chilly Autumn air

Neighbors raking leaves,
collecting a harvest of nuts strewn across the lawn.
A nip in the air
Sweaters pulled out of storage and gratefully put on.
Hot cocoa and pumpkin scents fill the house.
The smell of coal fires bring back childhood memories
of Grandpa's mountain cabin.
Standing on the patio watching leaves twirl and dance
Listening to the wind rustle through the trees.
Suddenly rooted to the spot as v formations pass overhead.
Feeling connected to it all and glad to be alive in this time
to witness the dying of another year.
