My niece, Bridget, posted this quote on her blog and I liked it so much that I decided to steal it. I can't verify if Emma Watson actually said this, other than from Bridget's blog, but it coincides with how I feel about the concept of "sexy", so I'll go with it!
"I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder."
Amen!
For instance, I have always thought that the string bikini just destroys the mystery. There is nowhere to go from there... the guys have already pretty much seen it all (other than a couple postage stamps of skin). Where is the sense of "you are the only one who will ever get to see the rest of my body"?
To me 'sexy' is not showing the world your whole body. 'Sexy' is looking trim and fit in clothes that hang just right and accentuate the fact that there is something worth seeing under there... and don't you wish you could?
Everything you ever wanted to know about me and my family...and probably some stuff you didn't!

I am so with you on this issue! Some of the girls who attend the school I work for break my heart sometimes with there attention getting outfits. They have no idea what they are doing to themselves. Back in my 20's when I was big into the clubbing scene I too flaunted what I had & although I had a fun time I was so empty inside. Great post!
I actually think full-piece bathing suits are much sexier than bikinis. My pet peeve is bras showing - what's up with that??
Alane, somehow I can't picture you clubbing or flaunting! You always seemed so ladylike in school and 'flaunting' doesn't match up.
Nancy, I agree about the bathing suits, though I prefer the tankini for its convenience when you wear it all day... if you know what I mean. And the bras!!! I know they are doing the bra thing on purpose, otherwise why wear a lime green bra under a pink top?! It looks so low class to me. Like they are trying to look like trash.
You know what? I like how you said it even better than Emma supposedly did. Especially, "To me 'sexy' is not showing the world your whole body. 'Sexy' is looking trim and fit in clothes that hang just right and accentuate the fact that there is something worth seeing under there... and don't you wish you could?" :) Do you mind if I add your quote to my blog post?
Of course, Bridget!
