Bill is an avid mountain biker. He heads for the mountains most Saturday mornings and tears up and down alpine trails until mid afternoon. He will go on afternoon and night rides, too, if he can squeeze them in. There are several other enthusiasts that he goes out with. There is a camaraderie amongst the cyclists that he also enjoys, I think.
One of the other riders owns a bike store and keeps a blog of all the rides he attends. He mentions other riders, many times by their 'nicknames'.
Bill is "Retro Bill".
He has been dubbed that because his bicycle is considered an 'antique' by the other riders. It is 13 years old. The other guys ride the newest and the best. Bill would love a new bike, but makes do with his old one because it still works and saves us money by not updating. He can still kick their trash on it, too!
From what I have read, Bill is considered 'hard core' and can out ride most anyone. It seems to burn the pride of the younger riders. He is acknowledged as someone who doesn't do a ride that is "under 20 miles".
I already knew that.
