Self inflicted insomnia

I couldn't sleep last night. I blame it completely on the Dr. Pepper I had with dinner and the ice cream I had for dessert. The caffeine in the drink kept me awake, and the ice cream kept me congested. Dairy fats clog my sinuses. That is why I drink non-fat milk. I just can't resist ice cream from time to time, though.

Why do we (as Americans) do this to ourselves? We consume stuff that we know will harm us, but we do it anyway because it just tastes so darn good! Where is the self control? I really think self control, or self discipline if you want to call it that, is the root of all the problems we face as a country. Somehow, my generation as a whole failed to acquire it. Lack of self control has lead us into the financial crisis we are currently in. Lack of self control is the reason we are the fattest country in the world.

Despite a poor night sleep, I did manage to get up early and get to the gym. Since it is my last week of vacation, I need to get my body back on schedule. It makes the first weeks run much more smoothly if my body rhythms are where they should be.
