Ironman Dreamin'

So, a couple of days after my 'big' triathlon, I am not sore at all and realize that I didn't push myself hard enough in the race!  I could have had a better time in all three events, I think.  Definitely a better time in my transitions.

I want to do more triathlons!  However, I can't do any more this season, because with Bill still recovering and not back to work yet, I can't splurge on entry fees right now.  So, I will have to content myself with training for next spring.  After talking with a couple of old friends on Facebook, I have set a goal to complete an Ironman in the summer of 2013!

Ironman is the original triathlon.  It originated in Hawaii, when a pro runner and a pro swimmer got into a discussion about who was more tough, endurance runners or endurance swimmers?  The discussion evolved to speculate about endurance cyclists, too, so the idea was suggested to combine all three of the top endurance distances into one monster race.  The Ironman was born.

An Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike course, and a full marathon (26.2 miles).

I know!  I am completely crazy!

Still, I am going to train and train like crazy for the 2013 Coeur d'Alene Ironman!  As part of my training, I plan to run the 2012 Utah Valley full marathon next June.  My friend, Jen, said she'd much rather do an Ironman than a marathon, but the marathon was on my bucket list first, so it is only fair that I cross it off before I try for the bigger goal.  How funny!  It used to be that running a full marathon WAS the big goal!  Now it is just a stepping stone to something much greater.

In the meantime, I plan to do a couple of Olympic distance triathlons next summer, and will probably repeat the Saratoga Springs Sprint tri as well.  Maybe I'll even to a half ironman, if I can be ready for that!
